Do you have an apple tree in the garden but don't know what variety it is? Then it's time to let our apple detectives solve the mystery!
Bring at least five healthy apples from the same tree and meet two experienced pomologists. They will help you find out which variety you have. Perhaps an old local variety grows in your garden – or an apple with particularly good qualities for storage, juicing, or baking.
Knowing our fruit and berry varieties is an important part of preparedness. In Swedish gardens, large amounts of food grow that we often do not fully utilize. When we know when the fruit ripens, how it is best used, and how we can store or process it, we reduce food waste and better use the resources that are already close to us.
Identifying apple varieties is real detective work. Color, shape, scent, taste, and history provide important clues. To facilitate the work, it is good if you also know where the tree grows, approximately how old it is, and when the fruit is usually at its best. Sometimes the pomologists need to continue the investigation after the meeting. If necessary, you will be informed by the pomologists about what other clues can help solve the mystery.
On-site, we also show a smaller exhibition with some of our most common apple varieties. We carry out the variety identification in collaboration with the Study Association Vuxenskolan.

How? Free of charge and drop-in. Max three varieties per person. Bring five healthy apples from the same tree. If the fruit ripens early, you can store it in the refrigerator until the variety determination.

Meet the pomologists Anna Holmgren and Agneta Lundberg
Anna and Agneta are experienced pomologists, variety identifiers, and regional contacts for the Swedish Pomological Society. Both have horticultural education with further training in pomology and have worked with fruit variety identification for many years. In addition to their own businesses, Anna works at a Garden Center and has a bachelor's degree in history. She also writes articles and books about the history of the apple. Agneta works in healthcare, is a social worker, and has furthered her education in nature and health. Together, they combine extensive knowledge of fruit, cultivation, cultural history, and people's relationship with nature.
