Have you heard about biochar and its many applications? During an inspiring day, you will learn about biochar, its benefits, and how it can be used for cultivation, soil improvement, carbon sink, and much more. You will also have the opportunity to participate in producing biochar in a so-called Kontiki – and take some biochar home with you. It will simply be a mix of theory and practice.
The day is open to anyone who wants to know more about biochar and how it can be used, no prior knowledge is required.
Program
9.30 Start with coffee and a roll, Leader welcomes you, presentation of the EkoBoost project!
10.00 Introduction and lighting of the Kontiki. Malin Axelsson, Ödevata Gårdshotel talks about the benefits of biochar, how it can be used in cultivation, as soil improvement, carbon sink, water purification, etc.
11.00 -11.30 How can biochar function as a carbon sink? Cecilia Hermansson, Hushållningssällskapet Sjuhärad
12-12.45 We will have a warming soup for lunch
13-13.30 Experiences from trials with biochar in deep straw beds. Stefan Wallin, Rådde Gård
13.30 Biochar on a large scale, Erik Öhlund, BC Heating
14.00 Extinguishing, emptying the Kontiki. Opportunity to take biochar home. Conclusion and Q&A session
(Approximate times in the program, between the lectures we will help each other to fire in the Kontiki)
Practical information
- The meeting is free of charge and is funded by Leader Sjuhärad as part of the project EcoBoost!
- We provide morning coffee and a simple lunch
- Remember to dress warmly, we will be outdoors for a large part of the day
- Please bring old wood, branches, and twigs as material for biochar production
- Do you want to take biochar home? – bring a bucket to fill!
