Active village

A new meeting place in Holsljunga – for young, old, and the whole community.

About the project

In Holsljunga, a new gathering point is now emerging. For several years, the villagers have been working to convert a former sewing factory into an accessible community house over two floors with an elevator. Now the next step is underway. Through the Active Village project, the Holsljunga community association is filling the Tallhaga house with content – and thus creating conditions for activities and community.

The background is clear. Today, Holsljunga lacks a neutral meeting place where everyone feels welcome. The parish hall has previously served as a meeting point, but the building is planned to be sold in 2026. At the same time, dialogues and a survey of the villagers show that the desire to meet is strong.

Therefore, the association now wants to create a vibrant meeting point for the whole community. Special focus is on the elderly and young, but the activities are aimed at everyone living in Holsljunga and the surrounding area. By meeting in the community house, generations can connect, newcomers can find their way into the community, and associations can develop their activities.

The project includes the purchase and installation of kitchen equipment for both a large kitchen and a café kitchen, audio-visual systems for film screenings and lectures, as well as locking and security systems. Once the equipment is in place, activities that the locals have requested can start. For example, they aim for meetings about the history of the village, try-outs in genealogy, film screenings with discussions, cooking courses, lectures on equal treatment and biodiversity, as well as CPR training.

Cut from the application

”The most important function of the activities in the community house will be to break loneliness, to gather people of all ages.”

The board's decision justification

The project achieves the approval level and creates conditions to generate many meetings and activities that strengthen cohesion and increase the variety of leisure activities for residents in Holsljunga and its surrounding area.
