Active and inclusive leisure for all

Rf-Sisu Västra Götaland and Fritidsbanken Borås are joining forces to create opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in sports and outdoor activities.

About the project

It is not always easy to know where to start. Many people with disabilities currently lack the right equipment and the conditions required to be active on their own terms. To change this, RF-SISU Västra Götaland and Fritidsbanken Borås are lowering the barriers and creating opportunities for everyone to participate in activities.

Through the project, they are purchasing parasport equipment and leisure aids, which are then available for loan at Fritidsbanken in Borås – completely free of charge for those who borrow. The equipment includes everything from sit skis and all-terrain wheelchairs to tandem bicycles and other aids, making it easier for people to participate in nature and sports activities.

An investment in education and community

To reach out and inspire more, RF-SISU and Fritidsbanken are conducting a variety of activities and trial sessions throughout Sjuhärad. They often arrange these activities in connection with larger events, such as the Swedish Championships week in Borås, to showcase the opportunities available and provide concrete examples of how sports can be adapted and made accessible for all. In addition, they also offer educational initiatives and exchanges of experience for associations – for example through the training ”Basics of Parasports.”.

Social sustainability – everyone should be able to participate

The project is based on long-term collaborations and a network of associations and organizations working together to create a more inclusive society. By providing necessary equipment and organizing training and activities, the project contributes long-term to a more active, inclusive, and healthy Sjuhärad – where leisure truly is for everyone.

Cut from the application

”Being able to participate in sports and outdoor activities can increase self-esteem and independence among people with disabilities, leading to empowerment and quality of life.”

The board's decision justification

The project has great potential to create access to an active leisure and parasport equipment for a target group that currently largely lacks this opportunity. The project is included in the strategy for Leader Sjuhärad.
