Fritsla VIK ski activity area

Currently, the Smeatorpets outdoor recreation area lacks an established activity during the winter. But that is about to change! Through this leader project, Fritsla VIK is investing in a trail preparation machine and equipment for snowmaking. This is the equipment required to be able to build a lighted ski area for ski play and a 2.5 km long electrically lit cross-country ski trail, which opens up activities for both beginners and experienced skiers.

Goals and objectives

This project is part of a larger effort to make the area accessible and attractive all year round, with a particular focus on cross-country skiing. The aim is to break the sedentary lifestyle and screen addiction of children and young people by creating an inviting place for physical activity in the winter. Through organized try-out opportunities, Barnens Vasalopp and outdoor days in collaboration with local schools and sports clubs, it is hoped that more people will discover the joy of cross-country skiing. In addition, loan equipment will be provided free of charge on specific occasions, with the goal of eventually offering a self-service system.

Accessibility and environmental sustainability

The ski activity area is aimed at the entire municipality, with a special focus on children, young people and people with disabilities. By offering free access to loan equipment and creating an activity area with different levels of difficulty, the project wants to ensure that everyone can participate, regardless of experience and conditions.

The project also takes the environment into account by using energy-efficient snowmaking equipment and modern grooming machines that meet strict environmental requirements. The water withdrawal for snowmaking has been carefully studied to minimize the impact on wildlife, and the equipment will be buried to disturb the area as little as possible. By reducing the need for long car trips to other ski areas, the project also contributes to a reduced environmental impact.

The project falls well under Leader Sjuhärad's criteria for local involvement and public space. The project will contribute to business development and provide opportunities for better public health and cohesion. The destination is developed, exploited for local residents but also for visitors. Opportunity to try skiing locally without traveling to other destinations.
