Currently, there is only one full-size wakeboard facility in Sweden, located in Haninge outside Stockholm. That facility is not built for advanced training or competition, which means that Swedish wakeboarders have limited opportunities to develop and compete internationally. Ulricehamns Wakeboardförening wants to change this by investigating the possibilities of building a full-size cableway that meets the requirements for both training and competition. The facility would make it possible for more riders to participate at the same time, which leads to more active athletes and greater social interaction.

In order to build a full-size facility, the current dam at Lassalyckan needs to be expanded. Through the feasibility study, the association will investigate the ground conditions, the dimensioning of the dam, and produce cost estimates and drawings for both the cable system and necessary constructions such as changing rooms, toilets and social areas. The results will form the basis for future implementation of the project.

An investment that can benefit many

The expansion of the dam would not only enable wakeboarding activities but also create conditions for increased snowmaking in the winter. If the expansion is a reality, the investment could thus contribute to a longer and more stable ski season, strengthening the resort's attractiveness for skiers and the tourism industry.

The project also has a strong social dimension. The association aims for the facility to be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, gender or functional variation. The feasibility study will therefore include consultation with accessibility experts and relevant target groups to ensure that the design and layout of the facility meets their needs. They also want to investigate the possibility of creating Sweden's first upper secondary education linked to wakeboarding, in collaboration with Ulricehamn Sports High School.

A future meeting place and development for the sport

When the feasibility study is complete, Ulricehamns Wakeboardförening will have a clear plan for how the full-size facility can be built and financed, as well as an assessment of how the facility can affect local tourism and economic growth. The association is convinced that the full-size facility has the potential to become a national and international meeting place for wakeboard enthusiasts, and in the long term make Ulricehamn a hub for the sport in Sweden.

The board's decision justification

The feasibility study fits well within the Leader Sjuhärad strategy and can ultimately lead to new exciting meeting places and activities that are also accessible to new target groups. The feasibility study is a prerequisite for ensuring a well-founded and resource-efficient possible project implementation.
