Meeting point Siggeberg

Meeting Place Siggeberg is a project in Håcksvik that combines building conservation, learning and community. Siggeberg – an old schoolhouse with a long history – today houses flea market activities, tourist information and spontaneous meetings. However, the house has long been in need of renovation. Therefore, the Håcksvik village association took the initiative to start the project Meeting Place Siggeberg, which puts sustainability and local involvement at the center.

The village association wants to renovate the building through practical building maintenance combined with education. They have invited an experienced cultural craftsman and together they are carrying out six courses in window and facade renovation. After each course, the association arranges open workshops, where both villagers and other interested parties can participate and practice, share experiences and develop their knowledge.

The course is aimed specifically at people who want to learn how to preserve older buildings. At the same time, it is open to everyone, regardless of previous experience. Participants get to try out techniques such as linseed oil painting, window puttying and wood repair. In this way, the project combines new knowledge with concrete results – a preserved and vibrant Siggeberg. In addition, the village association regularly shares the project’s progress on social media, to spread inspiration and increase interest in cultural crafts – not least among young people.

To strengthen cooperation in the village, the association also arranges a networking evening, where local actors discuss future issues, commitment and opportunities. Finally, the village association invites the entire village to a closing party, where the joint work is recognized and properly celebrated.

In total, the association plans to devote over 1,400 volunteer hours to the project. And when the last brushstroke is painted, the knowledge will live on – both in the village association's future operations and in every renovated window.

The board's decision justification

The Siggeberg meeting place project fits well into Leader Sjuhärad's strategy. By jointly creating a course and workshop series to learn about building maintenance and at the same time renovating Siggeberg, both social and economic sustainability is promoted. Through great commitment, a local meeting place and network is created that promotes development in the countryside.
