Ceramics in Väveriet – workshop, courses and meetings
The weaving mill is expanding its operations and has developed Uddebo Clay Workshop – a place for both nbeginners and ceramists with many years of experience.
About the project
The weaving mill was granted Leader support to develop Uddebo Clay Workshop as a creative meeting place for both new and more experienced practitioners in true DIY spirit. The workshop is housed in old industrial premises, an environment that offers both space and light. It also provides excellent conditions for community and creativity.
The goal of the project was to create a place where residents and visitors with a common interest in clay and ceramics have the opportunity to develop. And they certainly succeeded! Within the framework of the project, Väveriet created an equipped clay workshop, consolidated collaborations, worked on marketing, arranged a booking system and started a long-awaited and sought-after course. As a real highlight at the end, the public was also invited to an opening – completely in the name of clay with the opportunity to try out the craft.
The initiative and the ceramics workshop contribute to meaningful employment for residents in the area and it is already clear that visitors from outside are being attracted to Uddebo. In addition, the workshop becomes another leg for Väveriet to stand on and thus contributes to the continued development of the business.
Uddebo Clay Workshop:
”"With a 150 square meter fully equipped workshop, 8 turntables and generous table surfaces, there are all the ingredients to meet and learn in the spirit of creation and clay."”
The board's decision justification
After the application and presentation in the LAG, as well as an interview with the applicant, the scoring in the selection criteria has shown that the project is in good agreement with the strategy. The board assesses that the project strengthens and fits into Uddebo and that the project has a well-thought-out plan for how the conditions for preserving and further developing the pottery craft can be created.
