Multi-sports court in Fritsla
To reach more active members, Fritsla Hockey Club has invested heavily and built a multi-purpose court.
About the project
The origin of this project was that Fritsla Hockey Club had grown to the point where it was breaking while the facility had not quite developed at the same pace. With impressive commitment, the association therefore took a new look at the entire operation and gathered enough financiers to build a completely new hockey rink with cooling loops, changing rooms and stands. In order to extend the season and promote movement and activity even during the summer months, the step was also taken to apply for support for a leader project – a project where the rink would be supplemented with a sports floor.
The project was granted support and, together with a railing, the sports floor is now in place – a floor that allows you to play futsal, floorball, basketball and handball on the same surface as the pucks slide across the ice in the winter. As part of the project, the association also purchased sports equipment such as basketball hoops and goals for handball, football and floorball, equipment that came in handy in connection with both try-outs and the inauguration that took place before the project was completed.
The multi-purpose track has been a major boost for the area and is beneficial to both the association's members and the public who can use the track for spontaneous sports. Thanks to lighting, it is possible to keep the track open from spring to autumn between 08:00 and 22:00. During the day, the track is used by the school, early weekday evenings it is used for the association's activities, but at all other times it is free for anyone to use at no cost.
Fritsla Hockey Club:
”"Our association is based on great non-profit commitment and we therefore hope that this initiative will allow us to reach more users, which can lead to more people getting involved in the association and thus their local community."”
Commitment to the last nail
The multi-sports track has become a reality thanks to the non-profit forces in the association. The association's members and board are behind everything – from the first planning lines on the drawing to the last nail – all with a focus on promoting movement and activity among children and young people.
To get the project off the ground, workdays were arranged – a concept that proved to be successful in several aspects. Things got done, but just as importantly, people who had not previously been involved got to know the association through the workdays and have since continued to help with the association's work after the project.
One lesson the association is happy to share is that it takes a lot of planning and communication to get the nonprofit work done and coordinated so that those who contribute have a positive experience. It is therefore a good idea to take this into account in project planning.
Press play!
Within the framework of Generation D, a project that we at Leader Sjuhärad run, we visited Fritsla Hockeyklubb and Carl Rajala Pettersson, who has been driving the work to get the new facility – both rink and multi-court – built. The film focuses most on the hockey rink itself, but we dare to promise that you will get a nice feeling of the fantastic forces that exist in the association.
The board's decision justification
After the application and presentation in the LAG, as well as an interview with the applicant, the scoring in the selection criteria has shown that the project is well in line with the strategy. A project that generates great sustainability values. At its core, there is an inclusive association with a broad network and that is well anchored in society.
