Solhatten's cultivation

A new vegetable cultivation with care for people, nature, and the future.

About the project

Within the framework of this leader project, Pernilla Fischer took the step and laid the foundation for the start of Solhatten's cultivation, a small-scale community-supported agriculture in Bollebygd. Both the project and the cultivation are the result of a strong commitment to sustainable agriculture and a desire to contribute to the local community. And she has certainly succeeded! After the project's end, Pernilla cultivates a large variety of crops using environmentally friendly methods that promote biodiversity, and now offers subscriptions for vegetable boxes to customers who value sustainable and locally produced options.

Greenhouses, irrigation, and busy bees

Pernilla's initiative began with a vision of being able to offer vegetables that did not need to be transported far, but could instead be delivered directly to customers via subscription boxes and eventually through a community-supported agriculture. Through the leader project, she has obtained the necessary equipment in place – including two greenhouses adapted for Swedish conditions, an irrigation system, equipment for weed control, and other cultivation tools. Pernilla has also built a number of practical solutions for the cultivation – everything from work and packing tables to shelves for the pre-cultivation of plants. She has also invested in two beehives, where her first bees now buzz around as small, busy helpers to ensure pollination.

Collaboration is key

Solhatten's cultivation has grown rapidly and reaches more and more customers. Pernilla has actively built networks and gained valuable experiences from other growers in the area. She has also started collaborating with Krumelur in Bollebygd and offers both sales and pickup of vegetable boxes outside the second-hand store. It is a fantastic example of collaboration that not only facilitates for customers but also strengthens the local economy.

wants to contribute to national self-sufficiency:

”People in the local area should be able to eat locally produced food that is tastier and fresher than supermarket offerings.”

Sustainability in focus

Sustainability is at the heart of Solhatten's cultivation. Instead of heavy machinery, Pernilla uses smaller, battery-powered tools and works with natural methods to keep the cultivation environmentally friendly. Flower strips have been planted to attract pollinators and natural enemies of pests, which reduces the need for pesticides and benefits biodiversity.

The future of Solhatten's cultivation

The cultivation is now in full swing, but the ideas and plans are not finished. In the future, Pernilla plans to develop Solhatten's cultivation into a community-supported agriculture and thereby build an even stronger community around locally produced and sustainable food.

The board's decision justification

After the submitted application and presentation in LAG, as well as an interview with the applicant, the scoring in the selection criteria has shown that the project aligns well with the strategy. The project gives the company a completely new leg to stand on and contributes to local food production with minimal environmental impact. The project also contributes to increasing the self-sufficiency rate, which is a goal in the national Food Strategy.
