guesthouse Dahlbogarden

The demand for overnight accommodation was great at Dahlbogården, so they took action and converted the old grain warehouse into a guesthouse.

About the project

Since 2018, Dahlbogården in Hol has been hosting parties and conferences, as well as a small farm café. There was a high demand for overnight accommodation, especially since a large part of the business consists of weddings and conferences – but also because of the proximity to hiking trails, which makes the facility a great stopover. Developing Dahlbogården with overnight accommodation and additional activities related to this was therefore a natural step.

In this project, Dahlbogården Event and Room thus invested in further developing the business and converting the farm's old grain warehouse into a guesthouse. During the project, a lot of obstacles arose - the pandemic created delays and the war in Ukraine caused both longer lead times in deliveries and material prices to skyrocket. The result was that costs rose significantly and that additional own financing needed to be put in place in order for the project to be able to come to fruition. But - despite this, they managed to complete three hotel rooms with impressive drive and determination. The capacity is for 6-12 people and the rooms are fantastically nicely furnished with complete bathrooms and hotel standards. According to the project owner, the building has become incredibly much more beautiful than they could have imagined - the fact that you have a view of the extensive surroundings and the wetland that has been created on the property from the building certainly contributes.

The project, and what Dahlbogården now calls a ”boutique hotel”, has made it easier to attract tourists to the area. In connection with the final report, nine so-called influencers had already visited and stayed in the rooms, and the business has thus achieved widespread recognition thanks to its unique expression – not only in Sweden but also in Norway.

Excerpt from the final report

”"What was originally called a guesthouse has now become a boutique hotel. It is our guests who have given us this epithet."
and we can only agree. We have come far further than we dared to hope at the start.”

Pre-study – a starting point for development

Sometimes a feasibility study is needed before it is time to start a large project. That was exactly the case for Dahlbogården. They therefore applied for Leader support and carried out a feasibility study within the framework of our umbrella project. Pre-study Entrepreneurship.

The results of the feasibility study form the basis for the project that you are reading about on this page.

The board's decision justification

After the application was received and presented in the LAG, as well as the interview of the applicant, the scoring in the selection criteria has shown that the project is well in line with the strategy. It is a well-thought-out project with realistic expectations and clear goals. The project will further strengthen the area.
